The handmade Cloth Menstrual Pads are made with 100% cotton where they will touch your skin and finished with absorbent and comfortable padding for your everyday use.
When it comes to disposable pads, manufacturers are not required to disclose or list their ingredients on their package, but studies show that ingredients commonly found in pads include: chlorine bleached wood pulp or viscose rayon made from wood cellulose, dioxins, pesticides, GMO cotton, and fragrances - a catch-all term that represents an undisclosed mixture of chemicals. Additionally, high tech chemicals, like super-absorbent acrylic polymers (SAPs) and surfactant-laced gels are added for the absorbency.
Although the long-term health and environmental impact of these chemical ingredients is unknown, research from speaking to women about their menstrual health has shown many who have experienced allergic reactions to disposable pads and tampons.
Wash & Care:
Washing cloth pads is not a big deal and caring for your monthly period in a chill, eco-friendly way is actually pretty liberating! For gently used pads and liners, just toss them in with your regular laundry; pre-rinse is not necessary. For really soaked pads, or to avoid staining: pre-rinse in cold water to remove as much blood as possible; add to regular laundry.
Cleaning tip: Make up a concentrated pre-rinse solution with water + a small amount of your laundry soap of choice to remove as much blood as possible before washing.
