Roman Chamomile has a great reputation for being calming and soothing. It is a mild sedative and helps reduce stress and anxiety. helps to relieve skin irritations. Roman Chamomile is often used for skin irritations, infections and wounds.

It is used to relieve seasonal allergies to relieve mucus congestion, irritation, swelling and hives. Its anti-inflammatory agents, it can help reduce pain associated with arthritis as well as soothe menstrual cramps and body aches commonly associated with PMS.

Properties: Anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, antispasmodic, calming, and relaxing

Body Systems Affected: Emotional balance, nervous system, skin

Aromatic Influence: Because it is calming and relaxing it can combat depression, insomnia, and stress. It eliminates some of the emotional charge of anxiety, irritability, and nervousness. It can dispel anger, stabilize emotions and help to release emotions that are linked to the past. It may also be used to soothe and clear the mind creating an atmosphere of peace and patience. It has a fruity, herbaceous & sweet aroma.

Other Possible Uses: Chamomile neutralizes allergies and increases the ability of the skin to regenerate. It is a cleanser of the blood and also helps the liver to reject poisons and to discharge them. This oil may help with allergies, bruises, cuts, depression, insomnia, muscle tension, nerves (calming and promoting nerve health), restless legs, and skin conditions like acne, boils, dermatitis, eczema, rashes and sensitive skin. Chamomile is mild enough to use on infants and children; for centuries, mothers have used chamomile to calm crying children, ease earaches, fight fevers, soothe stomach aches and colic and relieve toothaches and teething pain. It can safely and effectively reduce irritability and minimize nervousness in children, especially hyperactive children. 

Historical Uses: It was traditionally used by the ancient Romans to give them a clear mind and to empower them with courage for their battles. According to Roberta Wilson, "...chamomile was nicknamed the 'plant's physician' because it supposedly cured any ailing plant placed near it." 

French Medicinal Uses: Intestinal parasites, neuritis, neuralgia, shock (nervous)

Blends With: Lavender, rose, geranium or clary sage

Directions for Use: Generally regarded as safe (GRAS) for internal consumption fy the FDA (21CFR182.20)*

  • Dilute 1 drop of oil in 1 teaspoon of honey or 4 oz of beverage (i.e. soy/rice milk)
  • Use 6-8 drops in a diffuser of your choice
  • Apply diluted to flex points and/or directly on area of concern.
  • Dilute with a base and massage over stomach, solar plexus and thighs.
  • Add to bath for relief of symptoms or as a warm compress
